The ideals of the Department of Political Science in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College, are driven through inquisitive minds, erudite learnings, and seasoned professionals. The hardworking faculty seeks to enrich the educational environment, through a participative, and enriching space, in which the students have an opportunity to better understand concepts.

The philosophy of the department is to transcend beyond the syllabus, but also to evolve a cross-disciplinary approach of theory and practice, to the very ideals of model flag bearers. To achieve this, the college encourages the inculcation of values of equality, liberty and fraternity in theory and practice.

The faculty, and students, are at ease with the dynamic nature of the programme, and are adapted to keep abreast with competitive environments, in order to build their capabilities in time management, and conflict resolution. Through the introduction of global theories, and best practices, the students remain at the forefront of access to many research themes, and easily mold into the larger study groups for social sciences.

These efforts are made possible through a department of energetic, and bright faculty, which consist of a healthy blend of the seasoned, as well as the relatively younger associates. The staff holds varied expertise in research, and teaching across a spectrum of disciplines. Their continued efforts to upskill, and project the best of the department, is exemplified through the plethora of conferences, workshops, and lectures, which include participation from eminent personalities. These events have gained the department a formidable reputation across the country, and the world.

Under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), the Department offers UnderGraduate courses in Political Science at both an honors and a programme level. It also includes electives in Ability Enhancement Skill Development, Discipline Specific Courses, and Generic Interdisciplinary courses. It further offers courses in B.Com (Programme), and B.A. Programme, as alternatives to Modern Indian Languages (MIL) courses.

The Political Science Association, a student-led body of the department, works in close consultation with the faculty, in conducting several academic, and co-curricular activities. These are held at inter-department, as well as inter-collegiate levels. Yugaantar is the annual fest organized by the department. The department also has a Gandhi Study Circle, which seeks to highlight the values of Mahatma Gandhi among students by organizing events including movie shows, quiz competitions as well as lectures.
